Materials

Build a project-wide materials list to streamline material assignment.

Material system overview

The app uses a 3-level material system:

1. Materials - Set primary materials for the whole project (this guide)
2. Room Materials - Use Edit primary to set primary materials per room
3. Individual Assignment - Assign materials to individual elements

The project materials list is the foundation of this system.

Access project materials

1. Open your Project
2. Locate the Materials section
3. Tap Set primary materials
4. Materials screen opens showing project materials

This screen shows all materials available for assignment throughout the project.

Add materials to project

1. In the materials screen, tap Add button
2. The material catalog opens
3. Browse or search for materials:
   • Filter by building element type
   • Search by material name
   • View material values shown as U:
4. Select a material
5. The Material details screen opens:
   • Optionally add Determined by source
   • Optionally add a note
6. Tap Add

The material is now available for assignment throughout the project.

Material properties

When adding materials from the catalog:

Basic information

• Material name
• Material type (walls, floors, ceilings, windows, doors)
• Building element sub-type

Thermal properties

• U-value (thermal transmittance)

Optional fields

• Determined by - How the material was identified:
  • Drill sample
  • Homeowner
  • Measured - Insulation thickness
  • Measured - Window
  • Measured - Door
  • Measured - Loft hatch
  • Measured at knee wall hatch
  • Estimate - Year Built
  • Estimate - Renovation Year
  • Drawing material
  • Inaccessible areas
  • Estimate - Inspection
• Note - Free text note about the material

Browse the material catalog

The material catalog contains pre-configured materials with U-values:

• Filter by Building Element - View materials for specific element types
• Search - Find materials by name
• View Properties - See material name, type, and the U: value when available
• Shortlist Status - Materials already added are disabled and greyed out

Edit project materials

1. Open the materials screen
2. Tap on a material in the list
3. Select Edit from the menu
4. Update information:
   • Modify Determined by source
   • Update note
5. Tap Save

You can also set a material as primary with Set as primary in this room and onwards or Delete materials from this menu.

Organize your materials

By building element sub-type

The materials list organizes by element sub-type:

• External wall
• External wall - basement to air
• External wall - basement to ground
• Wall to unheated space
• Floor
• Ceiling
• Ceiling slanted wall
• Knee wall
• Ceiling against knee wall
• Window
• External door
• Door to unheated space

Primary materials

• Materials marked Primary show a checkmark
• Primary materials are automatically suggested during assignment
• Set primary materials per building element sub-type

Remove materials

1. In the materials screen
2. Tap on a material
3. Select Delete from the menu
4. If the material is assigned, confirm removal

Troubleshooting

Deleting an assigned material

• If the material is assigned or primary elsewhere, confirm the deletion
• Deleting removes it from the shortlist and clears affected assignments

Material not showing in assignment

• Verify material is added to project materials
• Check material type matches building element type

Can’t find specific material in catalog

• Use search to find materials by name
• Filter by building element type to narrow results
• Material catalog is pre-populated and cannot be edited
