Energy Certification Export
Export your project data as an XML file for use with the service you use to submit your completed Energy Performance Certificate. The export is reached from the Materials group, task Confirm that the thermal envelope is correct.
Accessing the export
Section titled “Accessing the export”- Open your project in the web platform
- Open the Materials group and select Confirm that the thermal envelope is correct
- Review any validation warnings shown
- Click the Export button in the top bar when all validations pass
The Export button remains disabled until all validation requirements are met.
Export data tables
Section titled “Export data tables”The export includes the following data tables from the Export tab:
BBR Areas
Area calculations for dwelling area, building footprint, regular stories, basement, and roof stories, with floor area, BBR area, and difference columns.
Measured Areas summary
Section titled “ summary”Summary of measured floor areas, including total heated floor area, heated attic floor area, heated basement floor area, and unheated basement area.
Windows and Doors
Section titled “”Doors and Windows grouped by BI classification, with columns for count, orientation, area, U-value, B-factor, and heat loss.
Walls/Floors/Ceilings by story
Section titled “// by story”Building elements organized by story level showing areas, properties, and material assignments.
Linear Thermal Loss
Section titled “”Linear measurements grouped by Type, with length, LT, B-factor, and heat loss values.
Validation system
Section titled “Validation system”Before the export can be generated, all data must pass validation checks.
Validation indicators
Section titled “Validation indicators”The Export tab shows validation status for each data section:
- Red indicator – Critical error that must be fixed before export
- Yellow indicator – Warning that should be addressed
The Export tab shows validation messages in red or yellow banners. If the Export button is disabled, its tooltip lists what must be completed before export.
Common validation errors
Section titled “Common validation errors”Missing Material Assignments: Building elements without assigned materials or missing property values.
Geometric Issues: Elements with invalid dimensions, missing story assignments, or overlapping components.
Data Missing: Specific missing inputs such as the Energy10 template, missing material, missing orientation, unassigned materials, unsaved changes, or required technical installation details.
Fixing validation errors
Section titled “Fixing validation errors”- Review the red/yellow validation banners and, if needed, the disabled Export button tooltip
- Add missing materials, fix dimensions, or complete required properties
- Continue until all validations pass
The Export button becomes enabled once all critical validations are resolved.
Generating the export
Section titled “Generating the export”Once validation is complete:
- Click the Export button in the top bar
- Wait while the system generates the XML file
- The file downloads automatically when processing completes
Export file format
Section titled “Export file format”The export generates an XML file for energy certification containing:
- Building geometry and area data
- Material properties and assignments
- Area calculations by orientation and story
- Linear measurements and associated values
File naming convention: the local XML filename is generated from the project’s street address, postal code, and city, with invalid filename characters cleaned and spaces replaced by underscores.
Data requirements
Section titled “Data requirements”An energy certification export requires:
Required building data
Section titled “Required building data”- Complete 3D building model
- All exterior Walls, Floors, and roof defined
- Windows and Doors with dimensions
- Story heights and Floor levels
Required material data
Section titled “Required material data”- Material assignments for all building elements
- Calculated property values for all materials
- Complete material specifications
Troubleshooting
Section titled “Troubleshooting”Export button remains disabled
Section titled “Export button remains disabled”If validation errors still exist:
- Review all tables in the Export tab
- Look for red or yellow validation indicators
- Fix all critical errors (red indicators)

Missing data in export
Section titled “Missing data in export”If the exported file is missing expected data:
- Review the data tables in the Export tab
- Verify all building elements are included
- Check that materials are assigned throughout
- Document all required measurements
- Complete any missing story or orientation data
- Regenerate the export file
Related information
Section titled “Related information”Building geometry and materials are captured in the iOS app and reviewed in the web platform. All required data must be complete before export. Validation runs automatically when you open the Export tab.
